Breaking the Cycle of Homelessness in Northgate
The Lodge Youth Support Service is a residential living skills program in Northgate that provides accommodation and support to up to four young people aged 16-25 years old who are experiencing homelessness.
The Lodge team provides a nurturing environment that fosters a sense of belonging and assists young people in building the skills needed for independent living, including cooking, nutrition, budgeting, physical health, relationship-building and time management.
‘In the last financial year, seven out of nine young people moved on from The Lodge into independent accommodation and all were engaged in employment or paid traineeships,’ says Theo Samaras, Service Coordinator.
The Lodge has increased its connections with the community by holding sausage sizzles at local Bunning stores, participating in Youth Homelessness Matters Day, the Nundah Festival and holding Open Days at The Lodge.
